Step 1: Choose Your Tool

Step 2: Set Dimensions
Create a canvas at 1280×720 pixels. This is YouTube's recommended minimum and keeps thumbnails sharp on all devices. Never go smaller; you can go larger (e.g., 1920×1080) and scale down if your tool doesn't support 1280×720 directly.
Step 3: Add Visual and Text
Pick one strong focal point—a face, product, or key moment. Add short, bold text (3–5 words) with high contrast. Use a readable font and avoid thin or decorative fonts at small sizes. Leave some "safe zone" away from the edges where YouTube may overlay UI.
Step 4: Export and Upload
Export as JPG (or PNG if you need transparency). Keep file size under 2MB. In YouTube Studio, upload your thumbnail when uploading or editing the video. You can A/B test thumbnails on some channels to see which version gets a better CTR.
